About the speaker
Susan F. Quimpo is a freelance writer and the co-editor/co-author of the book Subversive Lives: A family memoir of the Marcos years (published by Anvil Press, April 2012). Subversive Lives won the Filipino Readers’ Choice Awards for Essay Anthology in 2013, and was a finalist for the National Book Award (nonfiction and prose category). The book was recently nominated for the Manila Critic’s Circle’s Coyiuto Prize for Biography (December 2014).
Susan is a contributor, to the anthology Tibak Rising (published by Anvil Press, July 2012). She completed the Writing Program at Columbia University. She continues to write articles for online media – Rappler, GMA Online News, and UCANews. Her work has been published in Japan Times, Guardian (New York), Mr. And Ms. Special Edition, Veritas, Philippine Daily Inquirer, Philippine Star, Philippine Center for Investigative Journalism (PCIJ), and literary journals in the United States.
