Stephen Peckham – Restart
November 30, 8:30am - 10:00am UTC. Hosted at Milgi
part of a series on Restart
About the speaker
This month’s speaker is Stephen Peckham, the green fingers behind pop-up plant shop Eartha.
Having pursued several career paths ranging from book-binder to primary-school teacher to coordinator of the esteemed Iris Film Festival in 2017, Stephen decided to make his lifelong dream of opening a plant shop a reality after going through a period of depression earlier this year.
With the help of mental-health charity Mind, and supported by youth charity The Prince’s Trust, Stephen found the courage and developed the knowledge and skills to prepare him for his leap into self-employment.
After a successful crowdfunding campaign, where the start-up costs of his business were raised within 24 hours, Eartha opened in Duke Street Arcade in Cardiff city centre in June 2018. The pop-up plant shop has this month moved to plant-based restaurant Milgi, on Cardiff’s cosmopolitan City Road in Roath.
This month’s theme is Restart. Stephen will be discussing his unorthodox personal journey, how he was able to realise the business, and how he has been able to use his platform to support local growers, commission local creatives and aid refugees in Calais.
