What happens when you promote inclusive, unfiltered creative expression and nurture new ideas?

That's exactly what BEING art studio is promoting⁠. BEING is a community of artists with developmental disabilities contributing to the cultural life of our city. At BEING, artists have access to the space, the tools, and the representation to create and commercialize their visual art and creative writing.

In this talk, we will explore the beauty of unfiltered creativity and how operating in an inclusive creative environment opens doors to bold new ideas.

Stephanie Nadeau is Executive Director at BEING, a not-for-profit studio space that supports artists with developmental disabilities.

Stephanie was previously the Head of Public, Educational and Community Programs at the Ottawa Art Gallery (OAG). As a key contributor to OAG’s expansion, she advanced the Gallery’s commitment to accessibility, youth engagement, and social inclusion, by instigating several projects and ongoing initiatives aiming to position OAG as a welcoming and radically inclusive public institution.

Together with the artists, staff and board of directors at BEING Studio, Nadeau is striving to build a more collectively held space, which centers the artists’ voices in decision making about programming, communications, and governance.

Stephanie holds an MFA from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago and grew up in Montreal.
