About the speaker

Shannon O’Malley is a conceptual artist, creative director and tour guide who uses humor to reckon with social convention and its seeming contradictions. Her first picture-book, Apocalypse Cakes: Recipes for the End, uses the cookbook form to honor and critique real and imagined apocalyptic eventualities. Her second book, Gay Men Draw Vaginas, presents hundreds of vaginas drawn by random gay guys from around the world, including the realistic, conceptual and uncategorizable. Her work has been called “darkly funny” and “touching as hell” and has been featured in countless cultural venues such as Comedy Central and VICE. Her new project, the San Francisco Coloring Book series, uses collage, photography and illustration to tell stories about neighborhoods through which she gives tours.
