Samson Phommachack shares his experience of a Laotian monastery

About the speaker

Samson Phommachack, co-founder of Motion for Mobile, is a son of refugee parents. Coming from Laos, his family found a home in Aotearoa New Zealand in 1986.

Samson is a content creator, podcaster, entrepreneur, storyteller, and temp monk. He took a flight from his fast-paced life in Te Whanganui-a-Tara to become a monk in Vientiane, Laos, in 2015. His experience as a Buddhist monk was enlightening, enriching and a game-changer.

With his newfound perspective on the world, Samson brought the learnings back to Wellington - before mindfulness was even popular.

Samson can travel between different cultural spheres as a first-gen NZ-born Laotian growing up in an eastern household in a predominately western society; he chooses to navigate life through stories. His story is one of humble beginnings, human connection, and global citizenship.

We are excited for Samson to share his time in the monastery! Come hear him discuss sanctuary and refuge in multiple aspects of life.
