Richard Harvell gave us an insight to the vibrant worldwide publishing scene and shared with us how at Helvetiq they are managing to be creative and impactful with books and games.
About the speaker
Our world is full of all kinds of vibrant masterpieces! Heard a melody pulsing with a beat that made your body move. Taken in the view of a lush landscape or sparkling city skyline bursting with light and shadows. Locked eyes with a striking stranger. Poured yourself into prose that crackles off the page with electricity. Lost track of time in a conversation punctuated by spirited laughter. Stopped in your tracks in front of a canvas in a museum or a mural on the street with colors so bold and bright it popped from the paint straight into your synapses.
Richard Harvell will join us on the 31st May and share how at Helvetiq, they are managing to be creative and impactful contributors to the vibrant worldwide publishing scene – and all from Basel and Lausanne. Reading and writing is one of the best ways to feel alive and they work hard to do our part.
This month, we will be hosted at LocoMotive Event Room at Stellwerk thanks to generous support of Out & About, an association founded in Basel in 2020 by a group of creative professionals to help and empower artists and creatives on their career paths.
So, ready to have a vibrant Friday morning? Sign up for your ticket and we are looking forward to seeing you on the 31st at 8am!
The Talk will be held in English.
Our speaker
Richard Harvell is the American-Swiss author of The Bells, which has been translated into fifteen languages. Born in New Hampshire in 1978, he moved to Switzerland in 2003. Richard is currently Head of International Publishing at the Swiss publisher Helvetiq.
Helvetiq started in 2008 when their founder, Hadi, was preparing for his Swiss citizenship test and made his first game. This developed over the years and they became a publisher. At Helvetiq, they work hard to give Swiss and international authors and illustrators a chance to reach readers around the world. One of their books, Smash the Patriarchy, just won the 2024 Global Literature in Libraries Initiative Translated Book Prize. Reading and writing is one of the best ways to feel alive and they work hard to do their part.
