About the speaker
Melanie Dower moved to Helsinki from Aotearoa New Zealand in 2014 with her husband & son. After nearly 10 years working for an NGO that supports prisoners, ex-prisoners, their family & friends, she knew she would need to start her career over again.
Turning to writing, she started producing stories for magazines about Finnish design, art, culture and lifestyle. In 2016 her first book with photographer Laura Iisalo Helsinki: People Make the City was published, and her second book, The Finnish Guide to Happiness was released on Audible in 2024.
She will share with us her journey of rediscovering creativity after loss, as well as the challenges & joys of rediscovering what lights us up.
