Kennedy Center Citizen Artist | Represented by FRESH Speakers.
MiâJan Celie Tho-Biaz, Ed.D., is a cultural leader, oral historian and documentarian who shares narratives of personal transformation and community change.
To say this historianâs own history is distinguished is an understatement: MiâJan curated and hosted Unfinished Networkâs first 2022 public salon on the theme of multiracial democracy, with CNNâs Van Jones and MSNBCâs Maria Teresa Kumar. She also designed and led the Gloria Steinem Initiativeâs public policy digital storytelling pilot at Smith College, and served as a New Mexico Humanities Council Scholar. MiâJan has held Visiting Scholar appointments at Columbia University and New York University and served as faculty in the Cultural Leadership program at The Banff Centre in Canada. Currently MiâJan serves as faculty with Omega Institute, co-host for the National Art Education Associationâs podcast, as well as principal oral historian and public art curator for the California BIPOC Liberation Storiesâ Project commissioned by Policy Link.
MiâJan is best known for connecting with audiences through her visionary, story-rich talks at a range of institutions, from Carnegie Hall to the Institute of American Indian Arts to SXSW. Her goal? To make the historical contemporary and personal, while surfacing the marginalized stories that need to be heard.
How can we utilize Fellowship programs to resource and fund our creative work?
In this session we will learn the fundamental building blocks that form the foundation for your fellowship application plan. Moreover, we will learn how to research opportunities and evaluate program “fit” - matching short and long-term creative goals to the time, space and possible funding that fellowships may provide.
Attendees will come to this session with their own creative project in mind, and leave the session with a clear, individualized action plan to fund and support their creative work through fellowships.

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.
Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.
Wear your beginnerâs hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!Â
Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings communityâjust like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgroundsâa lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.
Weâre all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things. Try âYes! AndâŚâ in conversation.
Itâs 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
