Samantha Amberg

Artist, Writer, & Creative Consultant.

Brooklyn, NY, USA

I’m a visual artist and creative consultant roaming the streets of NYC. I never shy away from exploring new corners of myself, so I’ve also jumped into being a tabletop roleplay gamemaster, book editor, wine maker, and co-founder of Forevers, a project to celebrate and deepen forever friendships. I encourage everyone around me to show up as their full selves and brazenly stand up for the life and world they want to live in. 🌈

About this FieldTrip

We are firm believers that queerness goes beyond romantic relationships and that our friendships deserve pride and celebration too. What better way to do that than with a DIY pride-themed zine?

At this interactive zine-making party, we’ll learn a bit about the history of queer zines, explore the ways queerness can shape friendships, and work through simple creative exercises. At the end, you’ll walk away with a rainbow zine you can gift to a friend!

All skill levels are welcome. Whether you’re a pro zine-maker or haven’t felt creative since elementary school art class, join us for a relaxed hour(ish) of creativity, LGBTQIA+ pride, and celebration of queer friendship.

What to know or bring

  • Something to write on: A few sheets of printer or construction paper (nothing too thick here, we want it to be foldable!), plus a journal or scratch paper for brainstorming!

  • Something to write with: A basic pen or pencil is fine, but if there are any colorful art materials you love, feel free to have them on hand. We recommend having at least two colors or types of tools so you can really get playful on the page!

  • A friend in mind and a photo of them (digital is okay!): Be thinking which of your dearest friends you might want to celebrate pride with! While we love all types of love, this event is specifically geared towards friendships, not romantic partners or family.

What to expect

Workshop format!

A hands-on session where participants get to build, craft, or create something tangible.

It will be recorded!

The recording will be shared within 24 hours in the follow up email for a 4-day window, and available at the top of this page. Make sure to register for access!

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And
” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
