In this talk, I explore the overarching theme of punk—focusing in particular on the Do It Yourself (DIY) ethos and how it shapes both my creative process and my work as a screenprint artist. Drawing from personal experience, I’ll share how DIY culture, rooted in punk, has influenced not only the way I approach illustration and printmaking, but also how I organize and sustain my practice independently. From handmade gig posters to self-initiated projects, my work reflects a spirit of autonomy, resourcefulness, and raw expression. I will walk through my working methods, give insight into the tools and techniques I use, and discuss how punk’s values—both aesthetically and philosophically—remain deeply connected to what I do. This talk is also about my literal connection to punk: the music, the people, and the scene that continues to inspire me.

About the speaker

Hi, I am Simon! I'm an illustrator based in Munich, creating atmospheric and minimalist screen prints, gig posters, and editorial artwork. Inspired by music, nature, and urban solitude, I aim to tell quiet stories through bold, clean design. Over the years, I’ve worked with bands like the Rolling Stones, Foo Fighters, Queens of the Stone Age, Rise Against, and Blink-182, helping shape visual identities for concerts, festivals, and various projects worldwide.
