Sócrates Medina of Perro y Arena

Socrates M. Medina Ahearn holds a Bachelor's in Architecture with a minor in Art History at Cal Poly Pomona. He founded Perro y Arena in 2018, initially as a personal endeavor to share his creations with friends and family. In 2021, he returned to his native Tijuana, turning his artistic passion into a full-time pursuit. He has been part of various exhibitions across the US and Mexico and was an artist in residence at the Mingei International Museum Shop for San Diego Design Week in 2022.

Socrates' work is a visual poetry, exploring the spiritual connection between humans and the Baja Californian fauna. The clay he shapes reflects the textures and tones of Baja's Mediterranean landscapes, while his animal figurines transport us to a mythical world where we can dance with coyotes and hares under the moonlight.

Sócrates obtuvo una licenciatura en Arquitectura y una especialización en Historia del Arte en Cal Poly Pomona. Cuenta con más de 6 años de experiencia trabajando en galerías y 4 años en despachos de arquitectura, ha desarrollado una profunda comprensión tanto del arte como del diseño.

En 2018, fundó Perro y Arena, espacio donde crea una narrativa visual que explora la conexión espiritual entre los humanos y la fauna de Baja California.

Su trabajo ha sido exhibido en diversas exposiciones y galerías en Estados Unidos y México; fue artista en residencia en Mingei International Museum Shop durante San Diego Design Week en el 2022.
