About the speaker
Paola Mendez is a serial entrepreneur, the founder of South Florida Bloggers, and the kind spirit behind The Blogger Union.
Paola’s talent for creating communities began in 2007 when she founded Pinkghost, a designer toy store, gallery, and haven for local and international artists. Pinkghost artist products, a collaboration between Paola and her favorite artists, were sold at stores around the world, including the Museum of Contemporary Art in Chicago, the Rhode Island School of Design, the Gothernburg Museum, Kidrobot, and Fab.com.
Today, Paola continues to run an eclectic portfolio of online businesses, including Coral Gables Love —the most influential online hub in Coral Gables— Dapper Animals, and Cool Gifting.
Previous to life online, she was a web developer in the finance and media industry. She holds a B.S. in Computer Science from the University of Miami and a Masters in Information Systems, where she graduated as the valedictorian of her class at Florida International University.
On her down time, you can catch Paola playing drums in her cover band (along with her partner Brian, her sister, and brother-in-law) or snuggling with her toy Yorkie, Pancho.
Neushop is born to pursue design that addresses real life. The kind of design that is unafraid of everyday aesthetics, and learns from what worked before. The kind of thinking unconcerned with originality.
Neushop, balances convention and innovation to instill ordinary experiences with the pleasure that only comes from good design. Neushop is a place for these ideas. It’s a store where they are reflected on physical objects; a design office that engages anything from packaging to urbanism; a forum where everyone is invited to exchange ideas and collaborate. In this space, Neushop aspires to show that a city perceived as superficial has been infiltrated by serious design thinking.
Masa Madre is a Community Supported Bakery (CSB) based in Miami, FL that provides hand-crafted, naturally leavened sourdough bread. By using responsibly sourced organic ingredients, Masa Madre makes bread that not only tastes better but is healthier for you. A CSB is similar to a CSA, except it’s bread! Your bread share is paid for in full at the beginning of each cycle and you pick up a fresh loaf each week, or every other week, at a predetermined location. A cycle lasts for 1 month (4 weeks). Subscribe to our newsletter to receive a reminder when a new cycle begins.
