About the speaker
Jason Gardner est un photographe américain basé à Paris et à New York. Passionné par la culture, les rituels et la musique et leur impact sur l'expression humaine, il travaille dans un cadre qu'il nomme l'anthropologie visuelle.
Pendant plus de 15 ans, dans 15 pays, Jason a visuellement documenté les rituels de carnavals, en se concentrant sur les célébrations traditionnelles, folkloriques et communautaires. Une sélection de photos et d'écrits de ce travail a été publiée sous le titre We the Spirits, GOST Books, UK (2024). En 2013, Jason a publié A Flower in the Mouth, sur la culture, la musique et les rituels du carnaval à Pernambuco, au Brésil (Visual Anthropology Press, États-Unis).
Il est co-fondateur de la communauté de réseautage pour les professionnels des secteurs créatifs Toasted Almonds, dont il a lancé le chapitre parisien (Amandes Grillées).
Jason Gardner is an American photographer, based in Paris and New York. Passionate about culture, ritual, and music and how they impact human expression, he tells stories, within the framework of Visual Anthropology.
For over 15 years, throughout 15 countries, Jason has visually documented the ritual and festival of Carnival, focusing on traditional, folkloric, and community celebrations. A selection of photographs and writing has been published as We the Spirits. In 2013, Jason published A Flower in the Mouth, about the culture, music and rituals of Carnaval in Pernambuco, Brazil (Visual Anthropology Press, USA).
He is a co-founder of creative networking community Toasted Almonds, having launched a Paris chapter (Amandes Grillées).
