Co-Founder at Listening Lab.
Matthew Chavez is an NYC based artist and author known most for creating Listening Lab and Subway Therapyâ award winning participatory public installations that won MASâs Brendan Gill Prize, Gold at the Anthem Awards, and the Demos Transforming America Award. His organization Art Plus People, focuses on creating empowering education programs, and public works at the intersection of art and life. He has a unique perspective on success and finding purpose, and hopes to share tools heâs gathered navigating life creatively.
He mentors young adults and designs youth development programs with partners like The Door, a non-profit in NYC providing transformative youth services to New Yorkâs most vulnerable communities.
In this session, Matthew Chavez will be sharing an ideation technique he calls Narrative Wayfinding, a process of using stories, and symbolism to discover opportunity, meaning and purpose.
During the Fieldtrip, participants will be invited to think differently about the role stories play in society, and will walk away with a toolkit for crafting a narrative that positions them where they want to be, with a good idea of where they want to go.
In this uncertain time, intellectual tools like Narrative Wayfinding creatively enhance oneâs ability to find exciting new pathways toward a desired future without feeling lost.
Since this workshop is so close to the New Year, participants will think about how to create momentum and trajectory throughout the year, by replacing the generally unhelpful New Year’s Resolution with a more fun personal guidance system.

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.
Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.
Wear your beginnerâs hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!Â
Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings communityâjust like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgroundsâa lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.
Weâre all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things. Try âYes! AndâŚâ in conversation.
Itâs 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
