Mia talks about our global theme of ‘Water’ and shares the importance of such a delicate resource to our everyday lives.

About the speaker

Mia Vaughnes is an urban farmer whose mission is to cultivate community through the sharing of real food. She started Good Neighbor Gardens with her life partner and has successfully installed and maintained over 112 urban edible gardens in the city of San Diego with her crew over the last 6 years. The GNG team grows food in homeowners’ yards and on school campuses with students. The surplus harvest is aggregated and distributed to subscribers who in turn help to support GNG’s school garden education program. This “Urban Sharecrop” model she envisioned is about sharing in order for us all to thrive in this bountiful circle of life. Mia was a financial planner for 24 years, but she left the comfort of her corporate career to dedicate her heart and soul to bringing food production and education to the center of our city, and to raise up compassionate stewards of the land.
