About the speaker

Maya is the founder and executive director of award-winning Proud Stutter, a podcast and nonprofit organization that is changing the conversation about stuttering through storytelling and advocacy. Her day job is Media & Democracy Program Manager at California Common Cause where she works on policy to strengthen and sustain community and ethnic media across the state.

Proud Stutter has appeared on an ABC documentary on stuttering, Apple Podcast’s New & Noteworthy list, The Guardian’s Top 5 Podcasts of the Week list, and NPR, among others. Maya's current project is producing a documentary short, ROCK OF HOPE, that intersects stuttering, bullying, incarceration, and rebirth.
