A two-time HBO Def Poet and Emmy Award-Winner, Joe Hernández-Kolski is a poet/comedian/educator committed to effecting positive social change while making people laugh. He performs his unique blend of comedy and spoken word poetry at colleges and high schools nationwide, combining the performance with a writing workshop. He currently works as the resident writer/comedian for UnidosUS, the country’s largest Latine civil rights organization. Born and raised in the city of Chicago, Joe now represents the tough streets of Mar Vista. He is a graduate of Princeton University where he studied under Dr. Cornel West and Toni Morrison. He is the proud host and co-founder of Downbeat 720, an open stage for teens now in its 24th year.
