Architecture as an Experience - Boutique Fitness Studios

In an age of abundance of 24/7 gyms and fitness apps, boutique fitness studios follow a different take by doubling down on unique community workout experiences in highly creative spaces.

Matthias J. Götz, lead designer of MAG.DESIGN, specialises in the design of such boutique fitness studios. He will explain their rise in the context of the general development towards “Experience-Architecture” of analog commercial spaces.

Matthias J. Götz was born and raised in Erlangen, Bavaria and studied architecture and sustainable building in Berlin and Oxford. His architecture practice is located in Berlin since more than a decade and he holds a longstanding partnership with Nicolas del Rio’s practice, DRAA, in Chile.

Currently Götz lives on the Spanish site of the pyrenees from where he leads an international team of architects, designing sports facilities and residential buildings.

Arrive early so we can start with a quick intro for anyone new to the studio and to cycling. The next 45 mins will be your high-intensity cardio workout on the bike in the dark room with amazing lights and only the best beats. Strengthen your body and burn up to 600 kcal through a variety of interval sprints and high resistance to fire up that heart rate. Just bring your gym gear, we’ve got everything else covered. From free towels and grooming products by Susanne Kaufmann, to hair dryers and lockers with a coding system. Fresh water from our filtered Leogant fountain is, of course, also free. Just remember to bring a bottle. Free shoes for our Stage Bikes are available in all sizes. After the course you can use the individual showers equipped with all products and the spacious and well-designed changing rooms.
