Mary Brown shares why she digs deep into that instinctive, gut-reaction to learning something new—and not shying away from it.

About the speaker

When Mary was growing up her curiosity, interest, and questions were explored, valued, and nurtured. She cannot remember gender boundaries or restrictions placed upon her as it related to what she could or could not do as a female. Her early fascination and interests in how things work the way they did and her innate desire to address disparities, has informed her current work at Spectrum Health Inclusion + Diversity Center of Expertise. Mary uses her frameworks from design thinking and Futuring in the areas of organizational learning, development and change. Mary was selected by the Grand Rapids Business Journal as one of the 50 Most Influential Women of West Michigan 2016. In addition to her work at Spectrum Health, for a number of years, she has been an adjunct faculty member in both the psychology and business departments at Grand Rapids Community College. Mary is currently a doctoral candidate for Pepperdine University.
