About the speaker

Creative Director of Relay Room – a Singapore-based, typography-led design studio, Mark De Winne embodies all the characteristics of an expert within this highly specialised and sought-after field; an unwavering passion and encyclopaedic ability for identifying typefaces, a tireless devotion to ensuring each element of a chosen typeface further enhances a brand’s message, and creating the fine balance between aesthetic appeal, formality, and legibility within customised typographic solutions.

Mark’s interest in typefaces and fonts was piqued by his father from a very early age when he developed a keen eye for identifying the basic elements in published typefaces. Heavily-influenced by American design legend Herb Lubalin, Mark’s flair for hand-lettering and natural creative instincts led him on a design path throughout his Graphic Design and Visual Communication education at Temasek Polytechnic and Singapore’s prestigious LASALLE College of the Arts. Mark also completed an Art Director internship at Oglivy & Mather in 2004 where he independently art directed, designed and supervised the execution of a print and web campaign for Motorola South East Asia as well as designing print materials for Nestle and Singapore Tourism Board (STB).
