About the speaker
Maria is an Art Director with a deep foundation in graphic design and photography, currently leading creative for a nonprofit that partners with school districts to expand opportunity and access for students.
Her work lives at the intersection of intention and instinct shaped by years of visual practice, community-centered storytelling, and a belief that creativity should meet people where they already are.
Her camino into design wasn’t linear. It’s been guided by curiosity, texture, and the quiet influence of analog culture like vinyl records spinning in the background, Polaroids tucked into drawers, expired film loaded into plastic cameras, and the layered language of street art and wheat-pasted walls. These artifacts of process, imperfection, and time continue to inform how she sees, makes, and leads.
For Maria, art isn’t something reserved for white walls or formal institutions; it belongs in classrooms, hallways, sidewalks, and everyday spaces where people gather, learn, and move through life.
Outside of work, Maria’s path is filled with the things that ground her: books with dog-eared pages, walls covered in posters collected over time, foreign films that linger long after the credits roll, and the familiar weight of her goldenrod Telecaster in hand. Most of all, she draws inspiration from the evolving conversations, humor, and laughter shared with her two teenage boys who are constant reminders that growth, creativity, and meaning are found not in arriving, but in continuing to walk the way forward.
