A fusion of individual creativity and collective improvisation, invites us to view music through a fresh, intuitive lens.
About the speaker
Everyone has their own rhythmic impulses—like a sonic fingerprint. Everyone can use their intuition to create music, even if music hasn’t been a big part of your creative life.
Join us for a performance where the audience will explore their own relationship to rhythm, weaving together a sonic net, or perhaps creating slime out of music.
We’ll make our own musical choices, and improvise with those around us.
Please bring a smartphone with access to the internet to take part in the performance (or pair up with someone who does). Wifi is available at two/fiftyseven.
Marcus Jackson is an artist and composer based in Wellington, New Zealand. He likes to collaborate with performers, creating work that interrogates the links between physical gesture and sound production, often with uncanny results.
He approaches sound in extremes, being most comfortable working at the upper and lower limits of volume and stimulus. In particular, he enjoys taking very small gestures or sounds or objects, and amplifying their role in the performance context.
Event space will be darker than usual and curtains will be shut to create a closed space within two/fiftyseven. Some movement can be expected during the experience but chairs will be available for all around the edge of the space. No drinks or food are to be placed on the ground during this time. A clear exit point will be indicated. Those with sensory processing disorders or photosensitivity may find the experience outside of their comfort levels. Anyone can leave the curtained space at any time. This darker sound experience will be around 10 mins before we open up the curtains again for Q & A.
