Miss Birdy encourages us to explore the power of art as a tool for coping with hardship through self-expression and self-understanding.
International muralist Miss Birdy guides the audience through her own story of art as a tool to endure what she’s been through and encourages all of us— because everyone is creative— to see what we’ve been able to create from the most difficult moments of our lives. At age 7, Mandi was diagnosed with ADHD and dyslexia, at 15 she lost her father, and in her early 20s she found herself in an abusive relationship and almost lost her life to suicide. Through each of these experiences, her art helped her to cope, to process, and to understand herself in new ways. Ultimately, art gave her a voice as a woman and an artist in the world. It was what transformed her life and her work in ways that touch others’ lives. She encourages each of us to recognize and use this part of ourselves to find out who we are and what we can each uniquely bring to the world.
