LOCAL with Kara Balcerzak (panel discussion)

Bonfire Bookstore & Yarnery

part of a series on Local (lo·cal) | Resident/Native

About the speaker

Kara Balcerzak is a writer, reader, knitter, and crocheter who owns Bonfire Bookstore & Yarnery. She believes in the power of creative endeavors to bring people together.
Kara will be joined by other local creatives for a discussion about what being LOCAL means to them. Together with Rachel Fitzsimmons and Edy Blue, Kara will shine a light on their local sense of creativity and collaboration in their small town.

Additional details

Our theme for March is LOCAL. It was chosen by our Santos chapter in Brazil and illustrated by Simone Matias.

Local (pronounced lo·cal) in Portuguese means “being a resident or native to a particular area.”

Our Santos chapter had this to say about the significance of this month’s theme: “We are proud to be from Santos. The feeling of loving the city but sometimes moving away. The benefits of belonging somewhere.”

So, how does where you’re from define who you are? How do different spaces foster that sense of connection? How can we develop and strengthen bonds with the people around us?

It’s time to remind ourselves that community happens in neighborhoods not just on screens.

We are switching things up this month: Our host, Kara Balcerzak, is inviting her local community to share their view on the creative life and building community in their hometown (by birth or choice) of Woodstock!

We hope you plan some extra time to browse Bonfire’s shelves of curated books and yarns!

Be sure to listen to the playlist for this month’s theme LOCAL in stereo. Contribute your own songs and help crowdsource the tunes for this event! 🎹 Tune in on the #CreativeMornings blog. #CMLOCAL
