Sarah Campbell

content curator & strategist at Finish It.

Seattle

I’m a content curator and strategist. My “Finish It” newsletter and workshops blend self-help, social science, and psychology to help people finish projects they care about. I have created online courses for McKinsey and ?What If! Innovation, and write about science for IEEE’s Pulse magazine. My radio pieces have aired on WNYC and as podcasts for the Poetry Foundation. I have a Ph.D. in English from the University at Buffalo, and have published several poetry chapbooks.

I live in Seattle, sometimes walking gnome trails with my daughter and working on (or thinking about) my own unfinished projects.

About this FieldTrip

Do you have notebooks filled with inventories of things you’ve seen, done, or want to do?

Are you fascinated by the odd and beautiful lists humans have made since they began writing? Come join us to explore the history, idiosyncrasies, and art of making lists.

You may already love lists for their usefulness in getting stuff done. This field trip ventures beyond to see what “extra” lists can do for our creativity and awareness. We’ll dabble in making lists that offer insight into ourselves and the world around us—and lists that are just inexplicably fun to compile and share.

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ Learn & chat: We’ll take a tour of funny and famous lists, lost lists, odd lists, and lists that read like poems. We’ll discuss the superpowers of lists—not just for keeping track of things but for tracking our hopes and aspirations.

✔️ Make: Through several easy experiments, we’ll play with new list-making ideas and then examine them to see what they reveal—about past experiences, what we notice, and ourselves.

✔️ Takeaways: New approaches to list making as fuel for personal projects & a Recipe for keeping a noticed list in lieu of a diary

🎒What To Bring

✔️ Bring your notebooks, memories, plans, cataloguing spirit, sense of humor, and a pen.

ABOUT YOUR HOST

I’m a creator, writer, & learning designer. For years, I’ve focused on creative makers’ relationship to their unfinished work. I find and simplify ways for people to keep moving forward with the projects they care most about. With my background in editing and learning design, I also help people make digital courses, podcasts, and books.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
