About the speaker
Lindsay Moriarty is the co-owner and founder of Monuts, an independent bakery in Downtown Durham that specializes in handmade donuts, bagels and breakfast sandwiches. Before Monuts opened its brick and mortar location last March, Lindsay sold donuts off the back of her tricycle. It may seem an unusual choice for somebody with two master’s degrees, but what’s even more unusual is the series of events that led her to this decision. There is no doubt that Lindsay is an odd-fit for professional baking, however, in taking this scenic route, she has found unexpected links between her chosen fields of study—public health and economic development—and the restaurant industry. As Lindsay continues to grow Monuts, she is more committed than ever to issues of job quality and living wage and has found a new platform, as a small business owner, to advocate for change.
