Rich Tu is an award-winning artist and creative in New York City. He is an Executive Creative Director & Partner at Sunday Afternoon. In addition, Rich has held creative leadership roles at Jones Knowles Ritchie, MTV Entertainment Group, and Nike Inc. He has previously won the ADC Young Guns award and recently received the prestigious Paul Manship Medallion for significant contributions to the Art Directors Club and creative industry.

Rich Tu received his BFA in Communication at Rutgers University in New Brunswick, before seeking his Masters Degree in Illustration at the School of Visual Arts in New York. Rich gives back to his alma mater as a professor of design at SVA, and to the creative community at large as the co-founder of the COLORFUL awards with the One Club for Creativity, dedicated to creating opportunities for early career creatives.

Recently Rich was commissioned to design the poster for the FIFA World Cup in NYNJ. Creatively, his focus is on emerging audiences and energetic brands that benefit from an eclectic and unique point of view.

Awards and honors include: ADC Awards, D&AD, Webby Awards, Telly Awards, CLIOs, Cynopsis D Awards, PromaxBDA, The Shorty Awards, Power of Purpose Award, New York Festivals, ADC Young Guns, PRINT Magazine, American Photography, American Illustration, and The Society of Illustrators, among others.

Clients and collaborators include: The New York Times, The New Yorker, MINI, NIKE, HOKA, A24, Budweiser, Paramount, Adidas, Converse, G-Shock, American Express, NPR, NorthFace Purple Label, Coca-Cola, Verizon, Alfa Romeo, Bombay Sapphire, and Hamilton The Musical, among others. Also, he has exhibited at galleries and festivals in New York, Los Angeles, Berlin, and Miami.

About this FieldTrip

In this special Creative Mornings FieldTrip, award-winning creative director and designer Rich Tu will share his creative journey beginning as an editorial illustrator to a successful career providing creative direction for global campaigns and working with brands such as Nike, FIFA, MTV, Paramount, HOKA, and the WNBA, among others.

In addition, as May’s highlighted artist for “Do What You Love”, Rich will will share his creative process for the DWYL project, and how he ideates illustrative typography.
