A talk with Kansas City tattoo artist Jessie Hopeless on her journey, her work, and the world of tattooing.

This event features Kansas City tattoo artist Jessie Hopeless as she shares her journey in the world of tattooing, beginning with her early life and the experiences that shaped her career. She discusses the challenges of working in a field that has evolved from a male-dominated space into a more inclusive artistic community. Jessie explains the responsibilities that come with being a tattoo artist and shows examples of her work.

About the speaker

Jessie Hopeless is a Kansas City tattoo artist celebrated for her bold, dramatic black-and-gray work and her deeply client-centered approach to the craft. A three-time winner of The Pitch’s “Best of KC” award for Best Tattoo Artist, Jessie’s pieces are known for blending photorealism, abstraction, and illustrative design into something both visceral and poetic.

With over twenty years in tattooing, Jessie has witnessed the art form’s transformation from a male-dominated trade into a space where women lead, innovate, and define the aesthetic. She founded Hopeless Collective, a tucked-away studio in Kansas City’s Crossroads Arts District that she shares with Ink Master artist Alli Johnson. The studio has become a creative refuge—part atelier, part sanctuary—for clients seeking tattoos that carry story, symbolism, and soul.

Jessie’s work marries technical precision with emotional resonance. Her clients describe the experience as connective and grounding: part ritual, part collaboration, always personal. With each piece, she turns vulnerability into beauty—using ink not just to decorate skin, but to mark transformation.
