About the speaker

Jerry Geist spend most of his transformative years in Devils Lake and attended North Dakota School for the Deaf. He then obtained his Bachelor of Arts degree in Biology from Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C. Jerry worked for National Institute of Health in Bethesda, Maryland as a lab assistant for almost two years. He then joined the Peace Corp and was assigned to Ecuador, South America under the Special Education program. He also was a consultant to the National Federation for the Deaf Ecuador. His primary role was to expand the number of state Deaf Associations and provide presentations/workshop on various topics. After five years of services, he returned to the United States and obtained a position of Supervisor at Minnesota Relay. After 21 years, Jerry then obtained employment with the Deaf and Hard of Hearing Service Division under the Minnesota Department of Human Service. In his role as a Deaf and Hard of Hearing Specialist, he provides information and resources to Deaf, Hard of Hearing, and late deafened Minnesotans in the Northwest region of Minnesota [22 counties].

Jerry is a long-time member of the North Dakota Association of the Deaf and a board member of Vineyard Second Generation. During his leisure, Jerry enjoys golfing and reading. Once in a while, he goes on a trekking adventure overseas.
