About the speaker

Jay Gash (she/they) is a Black Queer filmmaker, third-generation photographer, and teaching artist born, raised, and based in Oakland, CA. As the Founder & Creative Producer of GASH Productions, Jay has spent over a decade crafting visual narratives that explore the intimacy between moments and places while centering BIPOC and LGBTQIA+ identities. From producing, creative consulting, and mentoring, to directing, capturing beautiful cinematography, and editing, Jay’s versatile expertise spans across short films, documentaries, and impact campaigns. Jay’s portfolio includes notable projects such as ‘Equity at Work’ (2024), ‘Sounds About White’ (2024), ‘Paramita’ (2024), ‘On the Pulse of Life’ (2022), and ‘When the Garden Comes’ (2022). She is currently producing her debut feature length documentary ‘Black High Tea’ (in production) and a short docuseries, ‘Oakland Out Loud’ (in production).
