“Let It Rip: The Ripple Effect of Technology in the Construction Industry”

They are an unlikely pair, a Blue Bomber legend and a red-seal electrician, but James Murphy and Ramir Diaz have found a common purpose working together at the Manitoba Construction Sector Council. James and Ramir criss-cross the province help people get excited about the possibilities of careers in the construction industry. They rely on making personal connections, having a passion for the industry and on some cutting edge technology like virtual reality to help make their case.Join us in this month’s CreativeMornings’ breakfast lecture, where James and Ramir will discuss the ripple effect they they are hoping to cause while working with remote northern Manitoba communities They’ll discuss the role technology has made in the construction industry and how they’ve hoping to inspire the next generation of construction leaders across the province.

About the speaker

James Murphy is the Community and Youth Liaison at the Manitoba Construction Sector Council. He presents to different audiences on careers in construction including elementary, middle years and high schools, immigrant settlement agencies, military in transition programs, employment centers, and Indigenous community agencies.

He is invited to present at career fairs, information sessions and construction sector expos. James is a liaison between post–secondary institutions and employers to help link individuals to employment in the construction industry through work placements and job entry programs. James takes an active role in securing funding and coordinating pre-employment training programs delivered across the province.

Prior to his role as coordinator, James Murphy was a business owner and also a Canadian Football League All-star with the Winnipeg Blue Bombers winning three Grey Cups and is a member of four different Football Hall of Fames in Canada and in the United States
