About the speaker
Iveta Chovancová likes to devote her energy to the theme of meaningful involvement of people from vulnerable communities. She started to work for Odyseus n.o. as a field social worker, currently she is the chairman. Iveta studied therapeutic pedagogy and psychology. During those years she dedicated her time to young people with learning difficulties and personal assistance, even before this to volunteering in multicultural teams abroad and leisure activities with the elderly. She actively represents the region of Central Europe in the Eurasian Harm Reduction Network and is a part of the advisory body of the European Commission in the field of HIV.
For 19 years already Odyseus n.o. has been helping to maintain human rights and improve the lives of vulnerable communities, especially people taking drugs, working in sex business, children and young people with poor access to services and information. Members of the association do social work, represent the interests of members of vulnerable communities and encourage them to self-help and awareness. They also serve as mediators in closer contact of these communities with the majority society.
