A versatile writer, editor, and creativity coach, she has a passion for nurturing the imaginative spirit and helping others reveal their own inner wisdom. She enjoys facilitating Amherst Writers & Artists, Journal to the Self, SoulCollage®, and Guided Autobiography workshops, and she is a joyful meditation teacher and Groove Method provider. A teaching artist with Hugo House, Arts and Healing Initiative, Women On Writing, and Loft Literary, Kimberly has led events at numerous retreats and conferences. Recent collaborations include Esalen Institute, Omega Institute, Hollyhock Retreat Center, the Expressive Therapies Summit, West LA Veterans Administration, The Huntington, and Virginia Garcia Memorial Health Center. Kimberly’s writing has appeared in a variety of publications and anthologies, and she has served on the staffs of Literary Mama, F®iction, and Carve Magazines. Ekphrastic writing is defined as “taking the visual and transforming it to the verbal.” This form of writing, used for centuries, encourages writers to use visual art as a muse for putting words to paper.
In this workshop, participants will play with imaginative writing prompts, exploring the use of images—including a simple collage of our own making—as a source of inspiration for creativity. (No artistic background required.) We’ll see how visual artwork can generate ideas for future projects and infuse current projects with new energy.

5x8 piece of cardstock or cardboard to use as a base (or simply fold an 8x11 page in half)
4-5 images of people, animals, and objects*
4-5 larger background scenes (nature, interiors, patterns)*

*How to select these images: Sit back and have some fun flipping through magazines and tearing out pages with images that resonate with you, move you, or somehow seem to be calling out to you. Try to avoid overthinking it and simply go with what captures your attention. Don’t worry about cutting anything at this point—we’ll get to that in the workshop! You’re also welcome to work with digital images with the platform of your choice.
A hands-on session where participants get to build, craft, or create something tangible.
