Historic Home Tour

Hosted at Barrow Residence

About this FieldTrip

During this home tour and conversation with architecture broker Brian Linder, participants will visit the Barrow Residence (1955), one of two homes in Austin by architect Harwell Hamilton, the well-known Mid-Century Modern pioneer and first Dean of the U.T. School of Architecture. Brian will discuss the history of the home, its links to work by Frank Lloyd Wright and Southern California modernists Richard Neutra and Rudolph Schindler, the influence of Japanese design, fine wood craftsmanship, and the sculptural expressiveness that define the era. The discussion will be framed in light of the value added by good design in the context of the real estate market, and the premium prices well-designed homes typically command relative to their more generic counterparts.
