The single-panel cartoon is an art form that combines the visual language of illustration and (often) text, to create humor and to convey an idea.

What makes a cartoon funny, and what roles do visual and textual language play? Is humor itself a universal language? Hilary has been learning German for two years, and by attempting to translate her cartoons, learns more about all languages at play.

wonderful presentation! I especially liked how she weaves in the challenges of translating comics as it presents another dimension most readers haven't considered as it relates to this art form. So cool to be connected with a wider CM community in this forum.
