About the speaker
Heidi Keller Phillips was born and raised in the Boston area, where like most other childhood stories there was a tree and somebody was fat. Only in this story there was also a boatload of ballet which brought Heidi to places like Boston Ballet, Butler University, and Laban Centre in London. Enter love. That force brought her back to Indianapolis after returning home to attend massage therapy school and dance for several Boston based choreographers. Marriage, Motus, 2 kids, and 15 years later, she is home in Indy, kicking it whenever and wherever she can.
In collaboration with other artists and alone, Heidi creates beautifully different dance and performance art that are both site specific and made for traditional performance spaces. Since 2008 she has been the director of Motus Dance where she works to make this opportunity for expression available to artists around her and create and maintain a space where dancers and performers can continue to study and share their craft. In 2010 she introduced and curated Cultivate, an emerging choreographer’s concert and it remains a bi-annual staple on the Indianapolis dance scene. In addition, she has created and/or performed with Spoke the Hub, Brooklyn NY; Indiana Dance Festival, Fort Wayne; Indianapolis Museum of Art; Spirit and Place Festival, Indpls; Fountain Square Art Fair, Indpls; Fringe Festival, Indpls and many more. Her work with Motus has contributed to a growth and education of dance in Indianapolis.
