About the speaker
Educator, advocate, and Director of Operations and Community Engagement at Big Big Table, Heather McCarthy brings a unique perspective on the relative nature of abundance through both a personal and professional lens. Before transitioning to Big Big Table, Heather worked in non-clinical mental health support, taught science and math classes at Buffalo State and Buffalo Seminary, and began working toward a PhD in Curriculum, Instruction, and the Science of Learning at the University at Buffalo.
Originally from WNY, and a resident of Buffalo, Heather joined the Big Big Table team on December 9th, 2021. Heather is an advocate for the importance of informal learning and play as a highly effective pedagogy, as well as an Earth and Planetary Sciences enthusiast. She refers to her work at Big Big Table as the ultimate capstone project, drawing from her education, experience, and the transferable skills she learned along the way. Big Big Table has provided Heather the opportunity to explore the nature of abundance, the fuel that keeps Buffalo’s first pay-as-you-can café open and dedicated to welcoming and providing a meal to everybody, regardless of how they contribute for their meal.
