Nicola Cher Geismar

Movement maverick at Free Your Spine.

London, UK

My name is Nicola Cher Geismar and I am the founder and creator of Free Your Spine, a movement method developed to empower and support people towards better back and hip health, with a keen focus on uplifting our emotional wellbeing. Free Your Spine was born out of injury and my absolute passion for movement to lighten and brighten our physical and emotional wellbeing, having personally experienced over the years depressive episodes alongside great physical dis-ease and distress. It is the very movement tools I share via the Free Your Spine method that helped me shift these energies and support me in breaking free and through these challenging times. A creative rebel at heart and movement maverick, I have always had a panache for being ahead of the curve in my industries and found myself organically walking left field of the main. I am also the founder of a wellbeing business, City is my Playground which is all about using our cities as a training ground to stretch, strengthen and express our physicality. My background is an eclectic one, if not unconventional. From London’s Hip Hop clubs of the 90s to grainy dance throwdowns in Brooklyn to dusty old Latin tracks sampled for their grooves, my influences span decades and cultures. These influences blend with my experiences as a Londoner, dancer, Pilates trainer, movement practitioner, educator and expert.

In 2011 after many recurring dance injuries and subsequent operations, coupled with scoliosis (aka known as a wonky spine) I was forced into period of rehabilitation where I took the time to think about all the attributes of holistic conditioning principles paired with functional spinal and body movements, and experimented with how I could blend them into a new style of physical pre-care, that would future proof people’s backs especially in connection to our heavily doused sedentary lifestyles. As our lives have got busier and busier, we’ve fallen into roles we think we should fit into to conform to society. We’ve forgotten how to express ourselves and release the playfulness within all of us. We have become increasingly stagnant and tense in our bodies, and many of us fall prey to the mind cave of overwhelm, stress, depression and anxiety.

I am humbled to have helped 100s of people overcome back pain through the unique Free Your Spine method.

My mission is to continue supporting people to free their spine from unhealthy positions and postures, whilst having fun and helping them to connect back into their true creative/empowered self. Free Your Spine Free Your Life!

About this FieldTrip

The Free Your Spine method workshop will combine fluid and free movements specifically designed to unlock your back and hips of stagnant and stuck energy. The session will take place on and off your chair, using it as a prop to help assist in freeing your spine and opening your hips up. Nicola will help you increase the flexibility in your back, bringing more mobility to your neck, shoulders and hips.

Our message is prevention over cure, this workshop will show you simple and accessible movement tools and strategies to bulletproof your future back and body health and we will have fun at the same time

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ We will start with a series of breath exercises as well as grounding and connecting in to ourself, our space and our inner world.

✔️ From there we shall explore a liberating move free practice to release ourselves and loosen up the mind and body. We shall follow on with a series of holistic spinal based movements seated on the chair.

✔️ We will share at the end of our experience :)

🎒What To Bring

✔️ Please bring a bottle of water and wear comfy clothes that you can move in. Ideally you want to be sock free too. Do have a chair (one without wheels) and sturdy legs available as we will be using it in the session.

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
