About this FieldTrip

During this session, you will learn best practices for what to do before, during and after your meetings to make them more efficient and effective. So much is in the preparation and follow through as well as anticipating common challenges during the actual meeting time.

In terms of value, meetings are inherently neutral but in practice about half are considered a waste of time. This session will help ensure that the meetings you run are not only valuable but are also enjoyable and something that people will actually want to be a part of!

✨WHAT TO EXPECT

✔️ We will start the session by looking at the current state of meeting life in the U.S. and invite you to examine the current state of your meeting life (both quantity and quality). You are encouraged to bring a copy of your work calendar with you.

✔️ We will then explore different ways to set up expectations so people in your meetings are prepared to contribute. You are encouraged to bring a recent meeting agenda for this part.

✔️ Then we will focus on the main components of an effective meeting.

✔️ In the next section we will identify and troubleshoot common challenges that arise during meetings.

✔️ Finally we will discuss best practices for following up effectively to ensure that the work that has taken place before and during the meeting will be completed.

🎒WHAT TO KNOW OR BRING

✔️ A copy of your work calendar

✔️ A recent meeting agenda

ABOUT YOUR HOST

Katherine Spinney once had eight back to back meetings and is still recovering. She has spent the past 20+ years learning how to effectively lead others and the past seven helping others do the same. Outside of work, she is a passionate traveler and had the great joy of visiting both Alaska and Hawaii last year. She also loves cheering on her Patriots (tough year!), spending time with her nieces and nephews, playing trivia, and attending festivals. She would love to connect with you on Linkedin

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
