About the speaker

Emi Matsushita, a dynamic force in freelance artistry, boasts over 25 years of global dance experience. As a seasoned entrepreneur, she guides dancers through mindset and business intricacies. Her mission to empower creatives is deeply personal—dance was her healer from a traumatic childhood and her solace after an unexpected divorce.

Founder of the inclusive dance team, Drop Squad, Emi witnessed the transformative power of movement in others and spurred her formal return to dance. Her reignited passion for dance led her to study at Trinity Laban Conservatoire (London), which inspired her to research the hip hop dance battle scene which was integral to her MFA in dance science.
Artistically, Emi thrives on collaboration, as seen in her role as Creative Director at the recent Bridges Festival. She's curated groundbreaking events, including the Open Your Mind experimental dance festival in London, and continues to champion dancers and creatives through initiatives like Art Boost Dallas with the North Texas Business Council for the Arts and establishing the Dance Business Coach Alliance.
Currently on faculty at the University of North Texas, Emi is crafting a progressive arts entrepreneurship course, embodying her commitment to empowering the next generation. In life's tapestry, she seamlessly weaves roles as a wife, mother, and perpetual student—infusing curiosity into every facet. Emi Matsushita is not just a dancer; she's a conductor of creativity, orchestrating growth and exploration in individuals and communities alike.
