About the speaker
Dee Jay Doc Harrill is a self-taught hip-hop artist and producer turned teacher. In his 25 years as an MC (rapper), turntablist, producer, recording engineer and performer he has performed hundreds of shows and helped over 5000 students write, record and perform their own songs. He created the Fresh Camp neighborhood summer hip-hop program in 2011 in Glenville. Now, it has grown to Buckeye and East Cleveland. His song, Trust Belt City, was turned into a concerto and performed by himself along with the Cleveland Contemporary Youth Orchestra. Voted one of Cleveland’s 30 Most Interesting People in 2017 by Cleveland Magazine he continues to use hip-hop to increase health and neighborhood vitality. As founder and director of the Refresh Collective, a non-profit, creative arts and youth development organization started in 2015, his passion is mentoring the next generation and providing meaningful jobs for his students in Cleveland and East Cleveland. Their mission is to refresh the heart of the city one song at a time.
