About the speaker
Jason Surrell is an author, screenwriter and Senior Show Writer for Walt Disney Imagineering, with twenty years of experience in the entertainment industry. His Disney credits include the reimagined Star Tours, the new Fantasyland, Raiders of the Lost Jedi Temple of Doom, Symphony in the Stars: A Star Wars Fireworks Spectacular, The American Idol Experience, the Monsters Inc. Laugh Floor, Star Wars Weekends, The Great Movie Ride, Walt Disney: One Man’s Dream, The Magic of Disney Animation, and the recent enhancements to Pirates of the Caribbean and The Haunted Mansion at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World.
Jason is the author of The Haunted Mansion: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies, The Art of the Haunted Mansion, Screenplay by Disney: Tips and Techniques to Bring Magic to Your Moviemaking, Pirates of the Caribbean: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies and The Disney Mountains: Imagineering at Its Peak. Jason also contributed essays and feature articles to The Imagineering Way, The Imagineering Workout, The Disney Insider Yearbook and disney twenty-three magazine. He also wrote for Walt Disney Television’s internationally syndicated television series “Secrets of the Animal Kingdom.”
Alex Wright is a Principal Show Designer for Walt Disney Imagineering. He is responsible for concept development, illustration, production design, art direction, and installation support for theme park and resort projects throughout the Walt Disney World property. He began his career with the Walt Disney Company in 1995.
Prior to joining Walt Disney Imagineering, Alex worked on project assignments including the MGM-Grand Adventures Theme Park in Las Vegas, the Leofoo Village Theme Park in Taiwan, and the Samsung “Home of the Future” at Expo ‘93 in South Korea.
Alex grew up in Pensacola, FL and is a graduate of the University of Florida with a Bachelors degree in Design Theory. He also completed a Masters of Fine Art degree in Scenic Design from the California Institute of the Arts. Alex now resides in Ocoee, Florida.
Jason Grandt is a concept designer for Walt Disney Imagineering. He is responsible for developing stories and ideas for Disney theme parks and Disney venues, as well as, art directing other disciplines in the design and implementation necessary to bring these stories to life. Jason began his career with the Walt Disney Company in 1998 working for Walt Disney Imagineering as a graphic designer.
Prior to joining the Walt Disney Company, Jason was an exhibit designer at the Field Museum of Natural History in Chicago, Illinois. There he was responsible for the development and design of museum exhibits and guest experiences.
Jason was born in the North Chicago suburbs and is a graduate from Loyola University Chicago with a Bachelors degree in Visual Communication. Jason now resides in Orlando, Florida.
