About the speaker
Derrick is a graphic/web designer working at HCA throughout most of his career. Although he has built a career in the Healthcare technology space, he felt there was some creative energy untapped. When he began to explore illustration, he found a renewed sense of invigoration.
These days, Derrick is most notably known for establishing his own brand under the moniker Straw Castle. Straw Castle is a brand consisting of classic Americana art prints and t-shirts, inspired from his love of block printing.
Through this design aesthetic, Derrick has built a steady client base as a freelance illustrator, using the principles he learned from his career in graphic design and illustration. Derrick has worked with many brands including Miller High Life, Harley Davidson, Nike and Under Armour.
