Kat Vellos

Author of We Should Get Together: The Secret to Cultivating Better Friendships.

Bay Area, CA, USA

I’m the author of the book We Should Get Together: The Secret to Cultivating Better Friendships. I help people create and maintain fulfilling friendships in adulthood—and lately, that’s gotten more specific: Helping adults build friendship and community in neighborhoods and cities that weren’t designed for it. Part of this work includes advocating for cities to become places where social connection is easier and built into everyday life. When I work directly with individuals, my work takes many shapes: figuring out how to fit friendship into your busy life, deepening existing acquaintanceships, and cultivating a more balanced digital life so you have space and time for IRL connections. My background includes UX (user experience) design, community-building, and facilitation. About this FieldTrip

Connection Club is for folks who want to nurture their friendships but can never seem to find the time. This introvert-friendly event is a warm, friendly, nerdy, mix between Study Hall, Art Club, and Accountability Buddies… all for the purpose of deepening or developing friendships!

After a welcome hello and session overview, you’ll turn your camera off and your Connection Club host, Kat Vellos, will DJ some chill background music while you’re in Study Hall/Art Club portion of the event, focused on making and sending delightful, loving, caring things to your friends. In the second half hour, you get to join a small group where you’ll have guiding questions to help you get to know each other better on the themes of adult friendship and cultivating connection.

About your Host
Kat Vellos is a UX design expert focused on the power of cultivating meaningful connections. She’s the author of “We Should Get Together: The Secret to Cultivating Better Friendships” which was called “marvelous” by BookLife, a subsidiary of Publishers Weekly, and which Kirkus Reviews compared to the work of Norman Vincent Peale and Cicero. Since its release in January 2020, it’s been helping adults around the world heal from disconnection and loneliness. Learn more at weshouldgettogether.com or katvellos.com

How to make the most of FieldTrips

The FieldTrips experience is defined not only by what the host has to share, but also by how we show up individually and collectively. The way we show up impacts our capacity to be moved, inspired, and activated.

Show up fully

Get ready to be immersed! Engage with smiles, nods, waves, emojis. Share in the chat. Get cozy. Turn off notifications. Sip your favorite beverage.

Stay curious

Wear your beginner’s hat. Go with the flow. Welcome the stumbles and fumbles. Congratulate yourself for trying. Keep going!

Celebrate your host

Our hosts are members of the CreativeMornings community—just like you! Everyone comes to this with different backgrounds—a lot of our hosts have never done anything like this before! And we love that! Cheer them on when something goes awry and when it goes perfectly.

Support each other

We’re all figuring things out in real time. Celebrate, rather than critique emerging ideas. Cheer each other on as you try new things.  Try “Yes! And…” in conversation.

Not vibing?

It’s 100% okay when a FieldTrip does not resonate with you. Pop out quietly and try another experience later. Fill out the survey with your feedback (no dms to host or chat commentary, please.)
