“Little did I know that simplicity is f**king hard.”

“It’s our nature to make things simple - to simplify our life, to simplify products, to simplify messaging. But it’s not always easy.… In many ways, simplicity is a front.” Artist Chad Rea shares from his experiences how simplicity is expressed in life – and how it’s our nature to crave simplicity.

About the speaker

Chad Rea’s paintings, sculptures, and digital works are a raw, authentic expression of the messy, complicated, and often ridiculously ironic beauty of the human experience. Blending themes of social commentary with transformative personal truths, his works draw on pop, street, folk, and punk aesthetics to transmute the trauma and pain of our world into expressions of joy, connection, and hope.

Before leaning into his art practice in 2017, he created influential advertising and design content for more than 180 brands with some of the hottest creative agencies in the U.S. and Europe, including the one he founded in Los Angeles.

His unique problem-solving abilities have earned the top industry accolades and have been featured as leading examples of creativity in more than 16 books.

He’s taught creativity at Art Center College of Design and the University of Texas for a total of 9 years. He’s been the voice of Bud Light, Jeep, Activision, and several other iconic brands. As an entrepreneur, continues to create several ventures of his own, including a community art gallery, studio, and short-term rental that he operates out of his residence, LockhART HOUSE.

Chad holds a BA in Advertising from Texas Tech University and a certification in Advanced Spiritual Psychology from the University of Santa Monica.
