About the speaker

Brian Takumi leads Brand Creative and Soul at Oakley, where he’s spent more than 25 years shaping the brand’s visual and emotional identity. His work has always centered around one question of why? A relentless pursuit that has helped Oakley stay rooted in its purpose while growing toward the future.

Since joining Oakley in 1997 as part of the graphics team, Takumi has touched nearly every facet of the brand: from apparel and footwear to product storytelling and brand strategy. He later founded VOICE (Visual Oakley Internal Creative Engine), the brand’s in-house creative agency, before stepping into his most influential role yet, guiding Oakley into its next evolution: Future Genesis.

Future Genesis is like the growth of a bonsai tree, not wild or unchecked, but shaped with care, discipline, and patience. It’s a practice of pruning with purpose, understanding that true growth requires boundaries, and that beauty emerges from how a brand honors both its history and its constraints. Through this philosophy, Oakley continues to evolve, refined, resilient, and deeply human.

Born and raised in Southern California, Takumi earned his BFA in Visual Communication and Minor in Strategic Marketing from Cal State Long Beach. Outside of Oakley, he stays grounded through family, cycling, and his lifelong connection to BMX culture, passions that remind him that growth, like creativity, is never a straight line.
