About the speaker

Event Recap

On Febraury 17, 2023, Tucson creatives gathered at the CATALYST Arts & Maker Space to connect with other creatives and learn from artist / muralist Ignacio Garcia. Prior to his talk, Ignacio invited CreativeMornings attendees to contribute to a collaborative art piece. Starting with a large prepped wood canvas attendees were invited to contribute with an array of collage materials. After the event, Ignacio added his own artistic touch to finish out the piece. Ignacio has gifted this work to the CreativeMornings community, saying "This piece is amazing because it's by all sorts of ages.. and it's a reflection of what CreativeMornings is all about."

Collaborative Art Project

To share the CreativeMornings/Tucson + Ignacio Garcia Collaborative Artwork with the Tucson community, we have partnered with Startup Tucson / Arizona FORGE to give it a home! See it on temporary display in the FORGE at Roy Place's front window starting March 8, at the March 31 event, or later this spring when it will be installed permanently in the FORGE at Roy Place building.

About Ignacio Garcia

Muralist/Public Artist and 2022 Arizona Artist Leader of the year (Arizona Capital Times), Ignacio Garcia is well known throughout Arizona and the west coast for his 3D chalk art and large photo-realistic murals, including “the Empowered Woman” in Downtown Tucson. He often plays on whimsical, playful pop art ideas, the blending of his street art, and the abstract contribution of the Sonoran lifestyle. Garcia is an artistic studies graduate of the East Valley Institute of Technology in Mesa, Arizona as well as the Gnomon Workshop in Hollywood, California. Ignacio offers innovation and a unique point of view. A fundamental motivation of his work is to challenge the viewers and ignite curiosity. Ignacio’s craft thrives on the emotional and physical reaction of his works. The research, reflection, and exploration of a topic that precedes a finished piece of work are meant to invoke authentic, unpredictable, and organic responses from each of its audience.
