About the speaker
Annica Eagle is a community advocate by day and a comedian, writer, magician, world-champion punner, musician, and blacksmith by night. And on weekends. And holidays! She is always exploring and expanding her crafts—and thinks you should, too.
Currently serving as a community engagement specialist for the Washington State Department of Commerce, she continues her years of community advocacy and organizing, connecting people to resources and information. Outside of her day job, Annica is a smithing instructor for Columbia Fire & Iron Blacksmiths, an arts nonprofit focused on education, which just completed a wonderful six-month residency at the Hive, expanding access to the long tradition of the craft.
Annica also has been an improviser with the Blue Door Theatre since 2015, a comedy writer for Lilac City Live (RIP!) as well as CONNORSversations, and she founded Spokane’s premiere (and only) pun competition in 2016: The Punderground. Annica also made her stage debut as a magician/illusionist in “The Mage and Sage” (2024). Since 2016, Annica has regularly competed in the O. Henry Pun-Off World Championships, earning two titles (so far): 3rd punniest in the world (2017) and the big win of MVP (2018). Her punning work, and the general world of competitive punning is featured in the award-winning documentary “Punderneath It All” (2023). Annica earned a Bachelor of Arts in Arts & Letters, summa cum laude from Portland State University.
As a smith of words and metal, Annica knows that punning is a rare medium well done, especially when the stakes are so high.
Additional details
Hi Spokane creatives! We’re back for CreativeMornings Spokane, and this month’s global theme is EMBER.
Date: Friday, April 24 Time: 8:30–10:00am Location: Spark Central (Kendall Yards) | 1214 W Summit Pkwy, Spokane, WA 99201 Speaker: Annica Eagle
➥ T H E M E: An ember isn’t a fire at its peak. It’s what remains after the blaze, quietly holding heat, waiting for the right conditions to catch again. This month we sit with that glow. What keeps your creative spark alive between the bright moments? Where do you find the fuel to keep going when the flame has gone low? Whether you work with words, metal, music, or movement, the ember is always there. You just have to tend it.
➥ S P E A K E R: Annica Eagle is many things at once: community advocate, comedian, writer, magician, musician, and blacksmith. And she thinks you should be many things, too.
