Anna Johnson

Broadway Square

part of a series on Reverie

About the speaker

Native American artist Anna Johnson seeks to bridge the gap between the world she lives in
and the culture she came from. Originally from Bismarck, she is an enrolled member of the
Turtle Mountain Band of Chippewa Indians and has lived most of her life in North Dakota. She
received her BFA in printmaking and drawing from NDSU and has been creating art in Fargo-
and across the state- ever since.
Anna is driven to create art that expresses themes such as social injustice, religion and
spirituality, and issues that Native Americans, women, LGBTQ+ and people everywhere face.
Anna seeks opportunities to connect with her community through participating in artist in
residency programs, teaching printmaking classes, being a vendor at the annual Native
American arts and crafts festival at the Plains Art Museum and by contributing to public art
projects such as the Greetings from Fargo mural downtown. She worked with Native American
school children to create locker murals at their schools and painted The Moon Also Rises mural
on the side of Bernie’s Liquor in Fargo. Several other pieces of her work are featured downtown
on utility boxes.
Anna serves on the City of Fargo’s Arts & Culture Commission, is the Executive Director of the
non-profit group The Human Family, is on the board of The Arts Partnership and recently joined
the board of Stonewall Sports, a LGBTQ+ sports group. She is also a tandem truck driver at
Aggregate Industries.

Additional details

This event will be held OUTSIDE in the Broadway Square green area. If weather is an issue, we will instead gather inside Jasper’s lounge area. But, until then, bring a blanket, bring a friend and enjoy an outdoor morning event courtesty of the great folks at Broadway Square. Breakfast and coffee will still be served in the square (first come, first served, until gone).
