Simplicity may seem effortless, but behind every elegantly simple creation lies a complex journey of craftsmanship and innovation.

Most creative people know this: Designing simple products is not easy at all. Before something becomes simple, there are a lot of things to consider, learn, and do. Let’s take a look at different approaches to three games that appear deceptively simple. Let’s explore the hidden intricacies, boundaries, and knowledge that form their foundation. Last but not least, let’s recognize the special power that enables creative people to generate new … and simple things.

About the speaker

Anja Wrede is a Berlin-based creative educationalist. She designs games, mostly without electronic devices. From 1995 until now, she has published more than 130 games with different publishers in and outside of Germany. These include board games and card games, designed for children and families. Anja is an expert in play, games, and game design. She loves to see smiles on other people’s faces while they play or sketch together. She is also a blogger: she writes in German about her everyday life and all her creative and educational projects. If asked, 'What are your favorite black and white things?' Anja’s answer would be 'Licorice and Vanilla ice cream.'
